Every story has a beginning. This is ours.
On February 26, 2008 my family and I opened the doors to Maria’s Comida. An opportunity to start a family business (from scratch) was presented to us and the timing for all of us could not have been better. After quitting our jobs and taking a leap of faith, here we are…years later.
We originally opened with a traditional Mexican menu and after nearly two years we felt as though it was time to get more creative and offer our guests a menu they have never experienced. Our vision was to create a “destination dining experience” with a unique, fresh and creative menu. Al (my dad) and Fred (my brother) have experience working with Asian cuisine; therefore, the concept was very simple. Where else in town is there a fusion concept involving Mexican and Asian? We rolled up our sleeves, recreated our menu and the overall feel of the restaurant and watched our vision come to life. When you are on the streets of Hamtramck you will see that it is an urban setting that exhibits creativity, community, diversity and an entrepreneurial spirit. We feel our restaurant is a perfect fit and a representation of our city.
Since we are a family owned and operated establishment, we take those “extra steps” with every dish we prepare. We are dedicated to bringing you the most exceptional entrees and create each menu item using only the freshest and highest quality ingredients. The result is truly a fusion of unique flavors. Not only are our dishes unique, but so is our method of cooking. Our Blackened Salmon is prepared on the bottom of a cast iron skillet, a method that allows for a flavorful salmon cooked to the perfect temperature every time. For an added touch, it is topped with our House Made Roasted Habanero with Mango Salsa.
Being in the restaurant industry I feel as though anyone can cook. Only those with culinary talent and a true passion for food can achieve depths of flavors with each dish created. Both my dad and brother have years of experience in the culinary industry and have learned how to work with various spices, create sauces and develop marinades. With their natural talent, experience and passion for food, they achieve depths of flavors that are unique to each of our dishes.
We recognize that our business does not operate without the support of our guests. It is truly an honor to be chosen as your place to dine and to celebrate those special occassions with your family and friends. When you walk through our door you become part of our family and we love that our family continues to grow every day. We want to thank you for allowing us to do what we love so much and look forward to you dining with our family!
