Chef Al & Daughter Marie in a Charity Bake Off
Luv baked goods? Want to support a local charity? Al and Marie will be participating in a Daddy-Daughter Bake Off on Feb 28th from 6-9pm. The rules are simple: Al and Marie will be busy baking something fabulous that will go before a panel of judges, including Chef Decker – 1 of 12 Certified Master Pastry Chefs in the US! This event is open to the public for a charity admission of $20 at the door. All proceeds generated will benefit Orchards Children’s Services, a non-profit foster care/adoption agency that Marie worked with prior to opening the restaurant. Guests will have an opportunity to sample a variety of locally baked pastries, including Ethel’s Edibles and Love’s Custard Pies, as well as Al and Marie’s entries. In addition, a “People’s Choice” Vote will be held! You will have a chance to vote on the pastry you like the best! Light appetizers to be served by Maria’s Comida. This event is BYOB. Raffles all night long! We look forward to your support!
Diverse(SOUP)City is back! Join us on Sunday, Feb 19th from 6-9pm! (see below for more information and how to submit a project proposal for our city of Hamtramck!)
We support our community too…
Diverse(SOUP)City
Diverse(SOUP)City is a new public event inspired by Detroit Soup and Soup at Spaulding. I am pleased to host this public event, along with my friends and fellow community members. Pay $7, eat soup, learn about creative projects happening in Hamtramck and vote on which project to fund with the money raised from admissions that evening. Through these events we are funding micro-grants for community based projects in the City of Hamtramck. It’s that simple…
On March 20, 2011 The Discovery Channel filmed this event to create a documentary showcasing the renaissance of Detroit titled Detroit In Overdrive. This documentary highlights residents of the city that are part of the redevelopment of Detroit and surrounding cities. The Discovery Channel took an interest in Diverse(SOUP)City and spent many hours with me, as well as the organizers of this beautiful community event to create the documentary. It aired on Discovery Channel’s Planet Green on August 4th, 2011. Be sure to capture this documentary!
Here is a peak of the action filmed by Philip Lauri of Detroit LIVES:
